Don’t miss “Mulan – The Musical” happening this weekend!

Share

Created in 2013, “Mulan – The Musical” combines drumming, dancing, acrobatic and martial arts in the first musical theatre performance directed and performed by Beijing Red Poppy – “China’s first and only all-female percussion ensemble”.

Beijing Red Poppy has performed over 2500 times in venues including the Sydney Opera House, Kennedy Arts Centre and 3 Olympic Games ceremonies. “Mulan” has received high praise for its power and unique combination of percussion and drama in over 200 performances across the USA, England, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Scotland, Kuwait and China.

The story of “Mulan” is a classic Chinese story most familiar thanks to the Disney adaption of its story aired in 1998. “Mulan” combines love, justice, loyalty and filial duty into one epic story, giving the audience a feel for Chinese culture – while enticing all with the incredible feminism of its heroine. Beijing Red Poppy’s women artists’ passionate and powerful percussion represents China’s new generation of female empowerment values, mirroring the same values portrayed in the original, classic story of “Mulan”.

Ocean Rain Arts Academy says they are thrilled to be invited to work with the International Multicultural Development Foundation to bring the show to beautiful Victoria.

With support from the General Consulate of China in Vancouver and a few Chinese local organizations, Ocean Rain is very confident about the success of the show.

They are also donating part of the net proceeds to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation to support our communities.
