An early morning fire on Tuesday at the West Bay RV park in Esquimalt destroyed a motor home and badly damaged two camper trailers.
Both Esquimalt and CFB Fire departments responded to the call around 1:30 am and managed to get the fire under control before it could spread further.
Esquimalt Fire Assistant Chief Steve Serbicis is crediting a working smoke detector with helping the occupants escape without injury.
“The difference between those people getting out of that unit and surviving tonight was that their smoke detector was working,” Serbicis told CFAX .
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
