Share

The Saanich Braves Atom hockey team won the regional cheering contest for Hometown Hockey, when the show was in Victoria in late February, and they are hoping Victoria will help ramp up their chances of winning by voting for them!

The team was introduced by Ron McLean during the Canucks game and had their cheer shown on the pre-game show. They are now Victoria’s representative in the national “Cheer Like Never Before” championships.

The team has an opportunity to win a package for 37 people that includes: transport and hotel in Vancouver; a day with the Canucks; performing their cheer in their dressing room; watching a game against the Edmonton Oilers; and winning new hockey equipment for the entire team – for a prize totaling $70,000!

“These boys have worked so hard since August, practices and games at least 3 times a week, sometimes 5:30am on a school day. As parents we are so proud of them so we entered them into the contest to keep some fun in hockey,” said Tanya Twynstra, mom of one of the players.

The team with the most online votes wins.  The team has created a Facebook page to keep the community updated.

Voting will take place online between March 27 – April 1st.
