The former owner of Moxie’s restaurants in Victoria, including the original location where Uptown is now, is opening a Frankie’s Modern Diner in downtown Victoria. It is expected to be open in early June.

The diner, once a favorite in Nanaimo is taking over the former Ric’s Grill, or better known as the former location of Cheesecake Cafe.

Frankie’s Modern Diner first opened in Nanaimo in 2013, but the location was closed last summer. The owner, Frank Naccarato, made the announcement on Facebook last year, citing he missed his home, family and friends in Victoria and tried to sell the restaurant with hopes someone would carry on.

The restaurant will open from 7 am to 11pm daily, and will have a full breakfast option, an area Naccarato thinks is missing in that part of town.

Naccarato also told Victoria Buzz, the restaurant will focus on local, sustainable products and prepare field to fork meals, as he has done with his past restaurants. They will cook as much as possible from scratch, utilizing fresh ingredients.

Customers can expect comfort food such as pastas, fish and chips, all day breakfast and of course traditional Italian pizza.

Work on the new location has commenced and they are currently hiring for all positions.
