The Independent Investigations Office of BC has confirmed they are investigating a single vehicle crash involving West Shore RCMP that occurred early Sunday morning.

According to Global News, a source says the man driving the vehicle is the same person who was behind the wheel of the truck that struck and killed Const. Sarah Beckett’s on April 5th.

The source said West Shore RCMP went to shut down a party on a logging road in Langford. On their way up, police encountered a truck coming down at high speed.

They turned around and pursued the truck when it rolled over and was found in a ditch.

According to police, on May 22, 2016 at approximately 12:50 a.m., West Shore RCMP responded to a request for assistance from B.C. Emergency Health Services. Upon arrival at the scene, police report that a vehicle departed the area,” reads a release statement by IIO.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle to perform a road check on it and according to police, the vehicle failed to stop. This vehicle was subsequently found to have rolled over causing injuries to two occupants“.

The driver was sent to Victoria General Hospital with a neck injury.

While the IIO would not comment if the man in Sunday’s incident is the same driver in the crash that claimed Beckett’s life, IIO’s Marten Youssef says more information will be released Tuesday.

No charges were ever laid following the death of Constable Beckett.
