A new look for Colwood Corners has been released.

Onni Group, that bought the stalled development out of the bankruptcy of League Assets, has submitted new plans to City of Colwood.

The new plans for the first phase of the City Centre property on Sooke Road at Goldstream Avenue includes drawings that envision a mixed use development with 13,887 square metres of retail and commercial buildings that would also provide approximately 284 rental housing units.

“The City Centre site is one of the most visible and significant developments in Colwood,” said Councillor Gordie Logan, Chair of the Colwood Planning and Land Use Committee. “It is a site with incredible potential and we look forward to working with Onni Group to encourage construction of an attractive centre that strikes the right balance of housing, retail, community spaces and necessary parking.”

The development is just steps away from Royal Roads University, with a growing Colwood business community around the corner that includes the Holiday Inn Express and West Shore Parks & Recreation. The Colwood waterfront and lagoon are just five minutes away. The site fronts onto the Island Highway, which runs directly into the City of Victoria and is adjacent to the Galloping Goose Trail – Greater Victoria’s well used regional trail and active transportation route.

Receipt of this development application is a first step in the development process. Staff will review the proposed plans to determine whether they align with the City’s Official Community Plan guidelines and existing zoning for the property.

Business in Vancouver reported that Onni bought the site for $17.5 million in October of 2014.
