The campaign is on to send Lambrick Park alumni Michael Saunders to the 87th MLB All-Star Game.

Saunders started his baseball playing Little League Baseball in the Gordon Head Baseball Association. While attending Lambrick Park Secondary School in Victoria, Saunders played high school baseball for the Victoria Mariners of the British Columbia Premier Baseball League.

The Seattle Mariners selected Saunders in the 11th round of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft. He spent the 2004 season playing for the Tallahassee Community College Eagles.

Saunders made his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners on July 26, 2009 where he stuck with the team until late 2014 when he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The American League and National League rosters are set for the 2016 MLB All-Star Game, but two positions remain open.  A group of players are selected from each side to be voted in by the fans – only one from each group will make it.

Balloting is underway through 1 p.m. PT on Friday, and you can help send Saanich resident Michael Saunders to the 87th Midsummer Classic next Tuesday at Petco Park in San Diego.

VOTE TODAY to help send Saunders to All-Star Game.
