Gone are the floral crowns and loud shirtless dudes of summer. Rifflandia starts off with a crisp evening in Phillips Brewery’s music venue village of a backyard. There was a somber anticipation over the crowd last night, kind of like the feeling you get when you wake up at 4am to go on the best trip ever. We’re still in warm-up mode, but the excitement pumping through the crowd was intoxicating.
A few thousand people show up for De La Soul’s blended set of old school classics mixed with their freshest new stuff and a relaxed, engaging performance. These guys have been at the game a long time and gave us a positively flawless show.
With stages at the Victoria Event Centre, Lucky Bar, Wolf/Sheep, Anián Yard, The Copper Owl and The Mint, Rifflandia 2016 has begun it’s Victoria take over for the weekend. Shows of pop, rock, dance, rap and everything in-between, around, over and through grace the stages this weekend. The festival is eclectic for sure and has everything you’re looking for.
