Canadian alternative rock band I Mother Earth brought their travelling reunion to Victoria on Wednesday, at Distrikt Nightclub with The Standstills opening the show.
“Saw yet another band that I grew up listening to last night, as I Mother Earth was in town. To top it off, it’s the first tour they’ve done with the original singer in over 18 years.. what a treat. It was a good show, took me right back to the 90’s as the room was filled with an ambience that resembled a grungy type of nostalgia,” one fan writes.
In 1997, the band shocked many fans and reporters when it announced that Edwin would be leaving, citing “unmanageable tension”, the band and Edwin mutually agreed to part ways. The remaining members carried on under the “I Mother Earth” name, bringing in a new lead singer.
On March 1 2016, I Mother Earth reunited with original lead singer Edwin to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Scenery and Fish, the trio’s best-known record.
“It’s going to be like a CanRock radio hit-fest, in a way,” I Mother Earth drummer told Orillia Packet & Times scribbler Patrick Bales. “The feedback has all been about ‘these bands were the soundtrack to my high-school years …’ To bring back that kind of feeling, that’s what music’s all about.”
The group will make its way across the country, ending at Casino Rama on November 5.
