Share

On Monday October 24, 2016 a 40-year-old woman at home with her infant child, was attacked by a man who stormed into her house, while she was receiving a FedEx delivery.

According to Saanich Police, just before 9:00 a.m. a FedEx delivery driver was transporting a package to a home in the 2800 block of Adelaide Ave. The driver spoke to the resident, and informed her he needed payment for the delivery. The woman went inside to call her husband, who had gone to work earlier in the morning, to confirm the required payment.

As the driver waited at the front door, an unknown man pushed past him, opened the door, and entered the home. Once inside, the suspect attempted to grab the package and run through the house. As the homeowner followed him, he picked up a potted plant and struck her several times on the head.

Both the victim and FedEx driver called 911, while the driver followed the suspect. Saanich Police were quickly on scene and were able to arrest the assailant.

“This incident is very unusual as this residential neighbourhood is a very safe area in our community.” said A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie. “Luckily the FedEx driver was alert, called Police and followed the suspect which resulted in a quick arrest.”

The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 33-year-old Victoria man, who is known to Police, is currently in custody and will be held for court appearance. Saanich Police will be recommending charges of, assault with a weapon and being unlawfully in a dwelling house.

Video Surveillance captured the suspect walking by after the attack, with the Fedex driver is close pursuit:
