Canada is getting a new three-dollar coin for its 150th birthday

Share

Everyone has a classic $2 bill laying around somewhere, and the Canadian Mint has offered a companion with the announcement of a $3 coin to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.

Loaded with an assortment of Canadian symbols, it features a moose, an inukshuk, and at the very top of the maple leaf, a couple of hockey sticks.

A post on the Mint website suggests “no matter where you live, no matter how you came to be here, you’ll have your personal story of what Canada means to you.”

There’s no bacon double cheeseburger on there, but that toboggan sends serious reminders to the “happy memories” section of my brain.

The collectible 99.99 per cent silver coin, which will not go into circulation, was designed by Canadian artist Laurie McGaw and is available to buy for $19.95 at Mint.ca.

The coin is expected to ship to the U.S. and Canada on March 17.

Anyone else surprised there’s not a bowl of poutine somewhere on there?
