Bay Street Armoury ceremony will mark 100-years since the Battle of Vimy Ridge

The Bay Street Armoury will open its doors to the public for a free open house and commemoration event this Sunday April 9, 2017.

Visitors will get to see the guns used in the 100-round rapid fire barrage the previous night at Fort Rodd Hill. Over 30 military units and organizations will have exhibits and performances.

A music and narrative event will take visitors from the beginning of the First World War, through the Battle of Vimy Ridge, to the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in 1936 at 2:45 p.m.

Additional components of the event include:

  • A traditional tea party featuring costumes, food, music and skits from the Great War era
  • Musical interludes and Commemoration Program

The Township of Esquimalt Archives will also be showcasing historical material and information related to Vimy and the First World War from an Esquimalt perspective.
