Newborn baby with heart defects fights for her life and family are thankful for community support

Share

Can you imagine the pain of undergoing 4 heart surgeries in a row?

Now think about how a newborn baby might cope.

On March 8th, 2017, little baby Violet Christians was born to a local Victoria couple. What should have been one of the happiest days of their lives was darkened by a grim diagnosis.

Baby Violet is currently travelling back and forth between Victoria General Hospital and BC Children’s Hospital while she awaits her open heart procedure. The family expects to relocate on and off for the next year.

The family found out early on that Violet is a fighter. At 6 days old, she has already gone through one heart surgery to fix her narrowed aorta and survived it.

But there’s many more to come, and the struggles of dealing with any future complications from the surgeries themselves are yet to be discovered.

The family has had to relocate to Vancouver in order for Violet to be admitted to the hospital.

In this troubling time, Sarah’s friend has set up a GoFundMe account to ease the financial burden of having a sick child and help them focus on Violet’s next few surgeries.

Violet’s father, Mike, is a Victoria police officer and her mother, Sarah, is a veterinary assistant, and they are extremely appreciative of the support they are feeling from co-workers, extended family, and the community.

The family says knowing that there are so many people in the community rooting for Violet is helping them get through each day.
