According to Sgt. Rob Smith of Oak Bay PD, the weapon has not been recovered yet and there have been no arrests.

The only description of the suspect that we have as of now is that the man is heavy-set, in his 20s, and was last seen wearing a brown jacket, dark pants, and a baseball cap.

Although the victim’s identity cannot be confirmed at this time, it is clear that she was a resident at the property.

The authorities maintain that although this kind of attack is highly unusual, Oak Bay in general is a safe area by all accounts and other than taking basic safety measures at all times, there is no cause for undue alarm.
