Concerned aunt warns of possible attempted abduction in Central Saanich

An aunt took to social media on Sunday, warning other parents after her nephew was allegedly approached by an unknown man in a black minivan who told the boy to “get in”.

Michelle Nelson told Victoria Buzz her 11-year-old nephew was attending Sunday school in Tsawout in Central Saanich. After class, he began walking back to his mom’s place.

“It’s really not that far from the church maximum 5-minute walk,” said Nelson. “He was about halfway up the road to his mom’s when a black minivan with dark windows pulled up to him and opened the window and said get in. My nephew said no and then the man attempted to get out of the vehicle.”

Nelson said her nephew then ran as fast as he could back to the church. He told the adults what happened.

The RCMP were notified as soon as his dad found out what happened, according to Nelson.

“They came and took his statement then had us bring him to the RCMP detachment in Sidney for further questioning. We were told by the RCMP officers that within 48 hours the report would be made to the media”

“They also asked us to post and inform other communities. My nephew was using his wits and we’re very glad he is safe and ran away from the danger”

Nelson said she saw the RCMP patrolling all day.

Nelson described the suspect as between the ages of 30 and 40 with a tanned complexion and short hair.

We have reached out to the Sidney North Saanich RCMP for further comment, but have yet to receive a response.
