Police investigate suspicious death in Duncan

RCMP are investigating a suspicious death after the body of a 36-year-old man was discovered on Saturday morning in Duncan.

Found in the hallway of Gala Vista apartment, the deceased man has been identified as Ryan Hendrick Young.

Police revealed in a press release today that the circumstances of the death are believed to be suspicious.

Young is described as Caucasian, 6-feet-tall, weighing 245 lbs, with brown hair and hazel eyes. His body was found wearing a black hoodie and grey pants.

Officers were seen going through dumpsters Monday morning.

The investigation is being conducted by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) with support from the North Cowichan/Duncan General Investigations Unit and the Forensics Identification Section.

“Our priority now is to try to piece together the day and hours leading up to Mr. Young’ death,” Sgt. John Ferguson, of the VIIMCU, stated. “Anyone who may have seen, spoken to, or have information about Mr. Young’s whereabouts from the morning of June 9th, up to and including the morning of June 10th, at 6:30 am, you are asked to [call] the VIIMCU tipline at 250-380-6211.”

Residents are expected to raise the issue of increased crime at a Duncan council meeting next Monday.
