Victoria’s annual Naked Bike Ride set to return on June 17th

Share

Victoria’s Naked Bike Ride has announced that it is coming back for 2017.

At 1 pm on June 17th, cyclists will congregate in front of the legislative building for a collective ride through the downtown core.

Participants are encouraged to get “as naked as they are comfortable with” to raise awareness of the vulnerability of cyclists and to protest humanity’s reliance on fossil-fuel-based transport.

Nudity is not required.

Victoria’s participation in the worldwide naked bike ride dates back to 2004. It has since become an almost yearly tradition. Around the globe, riders from 70 cities in 20 countries will be participating.

Bare Uncertainty

In April, a Facebook post from the organizational committee seemed to put the yearly event in jeopardy. However, today the group released a Facebook event confirming the ride would take place as usual.

“There’s an event page. [But] it’s up to people to show up,” the Organizing Committee told Victoria Buzz in a Facebook message.

If you or your friends are interested in this unique, extra-breezy bike ride, you can check out the Facebook event here.
