A Victoria man has been arrested, and a replica firearm seized after an incident which lead to the closure of the Johnson Street Bridge.
Officers responded to a multi-unit residential building in the 500-block of Johnson Street just before 9 p.m. Sunday, to a call involving a man with a gun.
Several people reported that a man had waved a handgun out a building window.
“In order to contain the scene and protect the public officers closed down several nearby streets to vehicle and pedestrian traffic,” said police spokesperson Bowen Osoko in a statement.
This closure included the Johnson Street Bridge.
Police then entered the building, believed to be the Salvation Army, and were able to take the man into custody a short time later.
Officers also seized a replica firearm.
Officers are recommending charges of Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon. The man was released on a promise to appear.
