A local businesswoman and longtime Saanich resident became the latest candidate in the Saanich Council Byelection on Wednesday.
Karen Harper, a 10-year member of the executive team at the BC Pension Corporation, will campaign against Nathalie Chambers and Rebecca Mersereau for a seat on the council.
“I’ve spoken to many Saanich residents and have heard many concerns, particularly with regard to affordability in Saanich,” Harper wrote in a statement. “I will work to ensure their voices are heard in this byelection and throughout my term as a councillor, should I be elected.”
Byelection date unclear
Saanich Council has had a vacant seat since the death of Vic Derman in March.
The exact date of the byelection has yet to be determined. However, reports suggest it could come in September.
