On Monday, the bid committee announced that they’ve added some influential figures to their team.

Furlong, currently the Executive Chair of Vancouver Whitecaps FC, chaired the Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation from 2001-2004 and was the chief executive officer of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Heller, a businessman, was president and CEO of Hudson’s Bay Company from 1999 to 2006.

2022 Commonwealth Games Saga Continues

Victoria’s main rival in the race to host the 2022 games will one of two British cities: Liverpool or Birmingham.

This new round of bids comes after Durban had the 2022 Games withdrawn on March 13. The South African city was unable to meet scheduled financial obligations.
