A grandfather and his grandson out for a weekend walk in Bowen Park were assaulted then robbed by an unknown male.

The incident occurred between 5:15 pm and 5:30 pm on September 23, 2017, near a wooded area north of the picnic tables and walking bridges and adjacent to the Millstone Stream.

Punched in the face while urinating

The 71-year-old male victim told police he and his 20-year-old grandson were casually walking through the park when at one point he went off the trail and behind a bush to privately urinate. At that time he noticed a male walking directly towards him.

Without any warning the unknown male punched the grandfather and then his grandson in the face, knocking the 71-year-old to the ground and causing his eyeglasses and baseball hat to fall off.

The suspect initially demanded their wallets but settled on the fallen cap and glasses and then walked away. The baseball cap is brown and has San Diego Zoo on the brim and SDZ printed on the side; the eyeglasses are Gucci and brown in colour.

Several Stitches for 71-year-old

The 71-year-old later required several stitches to close a cut to his lower lip. His grandson did not require medical attention. The male suspect is white with blonde hair and wore a brown jacket and brown pants and was accompanied by a female who did not participate in the assault. This female is described as having long black hair and wearing brown clothes.
