A $500-million marijuana farm may open in Central Saanich

One of the largest marijuana operations in Canada might soon be located right here on Vancouver Island.

According to reports by CHEK News and Times Colonist, the Stanhope Dairy farm on Old East Road in Central Saanich has been spotted as the proposed site of a $500-million marijuana farm.

Shawn Galbraith, the owner of Evergreen Medicinal Supply, has thus far acquired Health Canada approval to build one 150,000-square-foot, $25-million greenhouse – this alone would have the ability to produce 18,000 kilograms of dried cannabis a year.

He assured Times Colonist that the cannabis would only be distributed through legal and licensed channels, and not be sold to independent dispensaries.

The big picture

The proposed $500-million plan is to build 21 greenhouses on the 36-acre property, and would take around five to seven years to complete.

It will be presented to the Central Saanich council in order for Galbraith acquire the necessary permits, but he hopes to break ground on building the first greenhouse in early 2018.
