Canadian Blood Services announces urgent need for blood donors during the holidays

Share

This winter, the B.C. branch of Canadian Blood Services is running short on blood donations.

According to a CTV News report, David Patterson (the director of donor relations in B.C. for Canadian Blood Services) stated that the holidays always see a drop in the number of people donating blood.

He attributes this to the busy nature of this time of year, when people might be forgetting about those who have to spend Christmas in the hospital, in need of blood transfusions.

The importance of regular donations

Platelet products only last a week after the blood is harvested, Patterson told CTV. This is just one of the reasons why regular blood donations are extremely important to the organization.

So if you’d like to give back to the community this holiday season but may not have enough funds to donate to your local charity, consider booking an appointment with Canadian Blood Services – your contribution may end up saving a life.
