Batten down the hatches, Vancouver Island!

Environment Canada issued wind warnings for East, West, and North Vancouver Island today, stating that the gale-force winds will hit the coasts by Wednesday morning.

Estimated wind gusts

The affected areas are from Courtenay to Campbell River, and Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay in East Vancouver Island, where residents can expect winds of 70 km/h to develop.

Coastal parts of West Vancouver Island is about to be hit with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h.

And North Vancouver Island may be getting anywhere from 80 to 100 km/h winds.

This weather can be attributed to an intense Pacific frontal system heading towards Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii, and may ease up by Wednesday night.

Authorities are advising people to be careful on the roads due to worsening driving conditions.

None for Victoria

Almost miraculously, Greater Victoria seems to have escaped the clutches of this impending tempest, as the strong winds are expected to go around the city.
