Porta-potties are being lit on fire in downtown Vancouver

Share

Something strange is going on across the Georgia Strait.

A string of unsavoury crimes has led Vancouver Police to issue a unique press release warning of “arsons to portable washrooms”.

According to the release, from December 9, 2017, to January 19, 2018, there have been seven arsons where portable washrooms have been deliberately lit on fire during the late evening or early morning hours.

Danger to Nearby Buildings

In some instances, adjacent buildings have also caught on fire. Fortunately, no one has been injured.

Arson investigators are asking anyone who may have a portable washroom on their property to do the following during overnight hours:

• move the portable washrooms away from any building or structure
• lock and secure each portable washroom
• remove toilet paper and hand sanitizer

Any information about these fires can be given to the VPD’s Arson Unit at 604-717-2541.
