These 5 restaurants are temporarily shutting down for renovations in 2018

Watch out, Victoria!

This year, some of your favourite restaurants are getting a brand new look – or at least upgrading their equipment.

For this reason, they will be closing their doors until they’re ready to wow you with their revamped food/ambience.

Here’s a list to help you stay in the know:

1. Pagliaccis

This Italian eatery has been a staple of Victoria’s dine-out scene for almost 40 years. But they’ll be closing their doors for a couple of months in order to conduct some kitchen renovations.

  • Closing: January 15th, 2018
  • Reopening: March 2018
  • Location: 1011 Broad Street

2. Milestones Grill and Bar

The go-to waterfront restaurant of the city, Milestones will also be closing their doors for over a month, in order to redesign its layout. A local designer and contracting team will be carrying out the following renovations:

  1. Moving the bar to the front, and creating a lounge within the restaurant;
  2. Introducing a large, private party area on main floor that will be perfect for cocktails and conducting business;
  3. Round booths overlooking the water
  4. Brand new floors, ceilings, bathroom tiles, lighting, and chairs
  • Closing: January 15th, 2018
  • Reopening: February 26th, 2018 (tentative)
  • Location: 812 Wharf Street

3. Hotel Rialto’s Veneto Tapa Lounge and Café Veneto

Hotel Rialto’s classy AF bar closed down in the new year and will be getting a brand new look. The Veneto Tapa Bar is being moved to the Pandora/Douglas corner of the building, while the dining room is expanding into the existing lounge space. They’ve also promised some exciting new twists to the menu, so stay tuned!

  • Closing: January 1st, 2018
  • Reopening: End of March/Early April, 2018 (tentative)
  • Location: 653 Pandora Ave

4. Magnolia Hotel’s The Courtney Room (formerly Catalano)

After five years of leasing out their dining space to Catalano Restaurant and Cicchetti bar, the Magnolia Hotel and Spa has decided to open up their own restaurant (The Courtney Room) in the space. Catalano closed its doors on December 31st, 2017, but fans of their cuisine can still enjoy the same meals at Perro Negro, Ferris’ Upstairs Seafood + Oyster Bar and Ferris’ Grill, and Garden Patio, all located at 536 Yates.

  • Closing: December 31st, 2017
  • Grand Opening: The Courtney Room – Spring 2018
  • Location: 623 Courtney Street

5. Penny Farthing Pub

This local watering hole is already up and running! The Penny Farthing pub was closed for kitchen renovations, after 17 years of operation. But they reopened on Friday, January 12th, so go ahead and top up your beer!

  • Reopening: Friday, January 12th, 2018
  • Location: 2228 Oak Bay Ave
