It’s the last weekend of the month!

Here’s a list of things you can do in and around Victoria, Friday through Saturday.

Friday, January 26th

Lgbtq2s+ Yoga Class

What: The class is restorative and open to all levels of yoga experience.
It is for anyone identifying as lgbtq2s+, questioning and allies.
Our intention is to create a safe space to come together as a community and develop a regular yoga practice. The Yoga Den has gender-neutral bathrooms, the studio is a small space and this will be the only class running at this time, meaning only students of this class and the teacher will be in the space. The Yoga Den has lots of props and yoga mats, you only need to bring yourself and a donation!

Shoot For The Cure

What: Wear PINK! This is the annual breast cancer awareness basketball game where we raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Show your support and cheer on the women’s and men’s basketball team against Mount Royal in this game for a good cause. This year the goal is $5,000 raised for the cause. Pink out the arena! Wear your best pink outfit and win big prizes on the night while supporting the cause.

Queers & Beers Pub Night

What: Come join at the Felicita’s Campus Pub for an evening of hanging out and getting to know each other! We will be getting hanging out at Felicita’s Pub in the Student Union Building (SUB), at 6 pm -9 pm on January 26th. Bring your friends! CHEERS! This event is open to everyone- non-students too, although it is 19+ with valid ID!

Grizzlies VS Clippers – Family Fun Night & 3rd Jersey Auction

What: Victoria Grizzlies take on the Nanaimo Clippers at 7pm at the Q Centre Arena. Plenty of family fun is planned for this special game night as The Royal Bay Concert Band is set to entertain the fans as well as Games2U. Kids will also have a chance to try out virtual reality headsets with Victoria Virtual Reality. SHOOT TO WIN A CAR! A lucky Grizzlies fan could win a brand new 2018 Subaru Forester from Pattison Subaru valued at $33,600 in the Shoot to Win contest at the game. Up until the end of the 2nd period fans can donate and enter their name in the Ballot box for a chance to participate in the Shoot To Win Contest.

Distant Grand Album Release

What: Distant Grand is releasing their first EP “Fascination”. This EP is the culmination of two decades of exploration of sound, love and friendship. After many years of collaborations, the duo behind Distant Grand have solidified their style, resulting in the discovery of the sound that captures the essence of their self made genre, Sexy Sad.
Recognizing the need for a more sensualistic sound in the slower, deeper realm, Distant Grand is bringing sultry back to the dance floor.

Peninsula Panthers vs. Kerry Park Islanders

What: Check out the Peninsula Panthers as they host the Kerry Park Islanders. The Panthers have just a four point cushion over the Islanders, meaning a crucial two points will be on the line.

Saturday, January 27th

Victoria Health Show

What: The Victoria Health Show provides today’s intelligent consumers with the platform to investigate and inform themselves on today’s healthy choices for their family, pets, self and home. With over 100 exhibitors, you will see a wide variety of booths that are current with today’s trends and include up to date products, information and services. Join them to learn about GMO vs. Non-GMO products, vegan lifestyle, gluten-free products, mental health, fitness, weight loss, pain relief, heart & eye health, cholesterol, raw diets and more! 
When: Saturday, 10am – 6pm. Sunday, 10am – 5pm.

Victoria Tiny Home Design Build Education Weekend

What: Learn the “nuts and bolts” of how to design and build your own tiny house. This dynamic community-building workshop is geared to all skill levels, from custom builders to those who are just beginning their tiny home research journey. You will be informed of what you need to avoid tiny home designing and building pitfalls and get a smooth start!
When: 8 am – 4 pm

Fairfield Repair Café

What: Have something needing repair?  Bring them out to this event and get them fix for free.  This is an event for anyone with something needing repair, or just want to learn how to fix.  Also, those who want to help repair or volunteer in some other way are invited.  So come out and save your money, save your favourite items, save the landfills and save the world!

Charity Community Packwalk

What: Come out and enjoy a great walk with wonderful people and adorable dogs. A perfect place to practice proper socialization, leash skills, and get free advice from a trainer. This is a free event, however, donations will be accepted and appreciated.

Tsunami Preparedness Information Session

What: Learn about the tsunami hazard risk in Esquimalt, ways to get prepared, and what to do.  Attendees will leave with preparedness information and will have an opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with Township Emergency Management staff members after the presentation.

Commemoration of the Quebec City Mosque Shooting

What: The commemoration held by the British Columbia Muslim Association is aimed at educating and raising awareness about this rising tide of intolerance the Muslim community is currently experiencing here in Canada, a country that is globally known for its acceptance and tolerance of all peoples, cultures and faiths.

Amethyst Clothing Swap

What: Come one, come all to Amethyst’s 7th community clothing swap! It’s a great FREE way to refresh your wardrobe and pick up some fun new staples. Clothes, accessories and fabric scraps all welcome!

Improv Cabaret!

What: Paper Street Theatre presents an eclectic evening of improvised theatre. The first half of the show features students from our Master’s Program and the second half consists of a feature set from the Faculty of Paper Street Theatre’s Improv Classes.
