Victoria HandyDART workers threaten strike action on Monday

Share

Those who rely on HandyDart buses to get around Victoria may need to find an alternative as early Monday morning as drivers and other staff prepare to strike.

Unifor Local 333 issued 72-hour strike notice Friday, putting them in a legal position to strike on Monday.

Essential service levels will be provided during a strike for patients requiring cancer care, dialysis, and care for multiple sclerosis.

BC Transit released a statement reminding people that the conventional transit system is fully accessible including spaces for wheelchairs and low-floor buses. Also, registered handyDART customers can take advantage of the Taxi Saver program, and more information is available by calling 250-995-5618.

Unionized members voted 97 per cent in favour of a strike if a deal couldn’t be reached with First Canada, which works under contract to BC Transit.
