It’s the first weekend of February already!? 2018 is just flying by. Make the most of the start of the month by taking advantage of one of the many great events happening in Victoria.

Here are just a few of the fun things going on from February 2nd to 4th!

Friday, February 2nd

1. UVic Vikes vs. Eastern Washington U. Eagles

What: BCIHL Hockey: University of Victoria Vikes vs. Eastern Washington University Eagles

2. Couples Dance Workshop

What: In this class, we will be doing a romantic routine to “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. The price is per couple and you are required to bring a partner. As this is a romantic routine, it is suggested to bring someone you’re comfortable being close with.

3. Clothing Swap & Potluck Extraordinaire!

What: The folks at UniTea want new clothes — actually, and also just to get rid of some! Anyway, so you know the drill! Bring yer wears, swap it for some news, eat some food, and talk to humans!

4. Victoria Royals vs. Medicine Hat Tigers

What: Come cheer on your very own Victoria Royals as they battle it out against the Medicine Hat Tigers!

5. VFF 2018 Opening Gala and Film

What: Get ready to do your best Gay Gordon as we whisk you off to the Highlands of Scotland for a romp through the heather where you’ll be kicking up your heels to The Slowpokes Ceilidh Band for a wee bit o’ dancing.
There will be golf and whisky tastings by the Union Club of BC. The best of Spinnakers Brewpub beer and cider, and you’ll be as ‘fu’ as a puggie’ after the delights prepared by Table 21. Enjoy Sheringham Distillery cocktails and wine, courtesy of the Victoria Films & Entertainment Corporation and Cultural Multi-Media of Victoria Ltd.

6. Peninsula Panthers vs. Nanaimo Buccaneers 

What: Come cheer on your local VIJHL Hockey team! The Peninsula Panthers battle it out against the Nanaimo Buccaneers!

7. Comedy Vertigo

What: Live stand-up comedy at the University of Victoria, featuring some of the cities funniest comedians!

9. In Conversation With Armistead Maupin

What: A look at a warm, winning and much-accomplished writer who is best known for a series of novels, a miniseries and his almost daily column titled Tales of the City which was a key catalyst for changing sexual politics in America. Followed by a conversation with Armistead Maupin hosted by Richard Crouse of CTV’s Pop Life.

10. Black History Month 2018 at the Library

What: Begin the celebration of Black History Month and find out about the events in February 2018. Members of the BC Black History Awareness Society will be available to showcase their displays, talk about upcoming events, and answer any questions you may have.

11. Winter Urban Edible Gardening Workshop w/ Solara Goldwynn

What: Join Solara from Hatchet and Seed to explore what’s alive and edible this time of year in the garden. Hatchet & Seed is a local family-owned & operated ecological landscape business that specializes in creating landscapes that produce food, medicine and fodder; increase soil carbon; foster bio-diversity and absorb and store water.

12. The Riot Grrrls Burlesque Revue present: Burlesque Herstory

What: The Riot Grrrls Burlesque Revue is bringing you another high-energy, patriarchy-smashing, politically-oriented alternative burlesque show! This show highlights social phenomena from the early 1900s until now, from a feminist perspective.

Sunday, February 4th

13. SHINE Fashion Tea

14. Wonder Sunday: Animals of Culture

What: The year of the dog will start in February, and to celebrate the Chinese New Year, we’ll explore the museum’s Chinatown, make paper lanterns and learn more about the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

15. LGBTQ Climbing Night

What: You must already be belay-tested at Crag X.
You do *not* need to bring your own climbing partner. They can match up solo climbers after introductions.
You must be 16 years old or older to participate. If you are 16-18 years old, your parent or guardian must sign the Crag X waiver. They can do this online.
Where: Crag X Climbing Gym

16. All Ages Art Class

What: Camas Books and Eddy Graham will be hosting an exciting evening of creative experience. There will be painting, drawing and artistic exploration through your own choice of either guided teaching or your own free flow of creating! In an atmosphere that embraces individuality, we will all explore the inner world and bring it to paper and canvas.
