British Columbia sees rise in tourist numbers in 2017 (REPORT)

The British Columbia tourism industry is thriving, even in the winter months!

According to a Statistics Canada report, BC has seen a 3.3% increase in the number of visitors arriving in the province in December 2017, compared to December 2016.

A total of 5.7 million people from all around the world travelled to BC and stayed overnight, marking the status of the province as a prime tourist destination.

Statistics Canada attributes this growth to several factors, including the rise in accessibility of several international markets like Australia, Germany, Mexico, China and France.

  • Australia – up 20.4%
  • Germany – up 15.4%
  • Mexico – up 12.9%
  • China – up 7.1%
  • France – up 5.7%
  • Japan – up 5.1%
  • South Korea – up 3%
  • United States (excluding same-day visitors) – up 1.9%
  • United Kingdom – up 0.2%
