Crystal Pool upgrade project to receive $6 million from Federal Gas Tax fund

Share

Back in October, the City of Victoria announced its plans to embark on a $69.4 million mission to redesign and improve the Crystal Pool and Wellness Centre.

Funding was an issue when the plan was first proposed – only $10 million in reserves has been allocated to the project – so it’s a good thing that the City has attained conditional approval to get $6 million from the Federal Gas Tax Fund to help support it.

Bigger and better

The new facility is to provide healthy recreational activities for all ages and abilities, increase facility’s capacity, and use energy efficient technology to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas emissions by 33%.

The City of Victoria is also actively pursuing further funding opportunities and leads through other provincial, federal, and private avenues.

“The Government of Canada is proud to support important projects like the replacement of the Crystal Pool and Wellness Centre,” states Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi.

“Recreational infrastructure brings people together, encourages active living, and makes communities more dynamic and inclusive places to live.”
