Here are 11 Victoria Beer Week events you need to check out

The spring beer-a-palooza event of the year is back for its 5th year – and it’s already in full swing!

Eat, drink, and start the start the season off right, with the remaining 11 events spread out over 8 days of hopped up fun at Victoria Beer Week.

The first two events of VBW have kicked the week off with a bang, but you still have time to take in the essence of the festival with a variety of flavourful BC craft beer paired with scrumptious food from local Victorian vendors.

Once you get a taste of Victoria Beer Week, you’ll never want to leave! So don’t miss out on these 11 events:

1. Fishing for Beer

  • What: Fish and seafood lovers rejoice! Sample a variety of craft beers along with the freshest fish and shellfish from local vendors. For $20 more add a crab boil plate to make it a full meal (crab boil tickets are limited).
  • When: Saturday, March 3, 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Where: Victoria Public Market
  • Tickets: $40 (+$20 for crab boil)

2. Beer School

  • What: The only school where drinking beer is not only allowed, it’s part of the class! VBW’s Beer School is a fun and informative event where you can learn a bit more about your favourite subject.
  • When: Sunday, March 4, 11:00 AM – 4 PM
  • Where: Swans Brewpub, 506 Pandora Ave
  • Tickets: $20 per class or $30 for Complete Course

3. Homebrewers Workshop

  • What: Victoria Beer Week presents a comprehensive homebrewing workshop at Category 12 Brewing with brewmaster Michael Kuzyk. This 6 hour workshop also includes lunch (please let them know if you have any food allergies).
  • When: Sunday, March 4th, 11 AM – 5 PM
  • Where: Category 12 Brewing, Unit C 2200 Keating Cross Road

4. Beer, Pizza, and Gelato

  • What: Adding a dessert-and-beer course makes the perfect beer and pizza party even better!
  • When: Monday, March 5th, 5:30 PM – 10 PM
  • Where: Pizzeria Prima Strada, 1990 Fort Street
  • Tickets: $35

5. The Ultimate Craft Beer Quiz

  • What:Study up, sharpen your pencil and bring your craft beer knowledge to the Northern Quarter for a fun and entertaining evening. Do you have what it takes to defeat VBW’s own Thirsty Writer, Joe Wiebe, and take home a prize package? Bring your own team of “experts” (up to 6 people per team). Victoria’s Quiz Master Benji Duke hosts this fun and entertaining evening of beer-themed trivia. Come early to enjoy dinner from NQ’s excellent kitchen.
  • When: Monday, March 5, 7 PM – 10 PM
  • Where: Northern Quarter, 1724 Douglas Street
  • Tickets: $15

6. Taco Tuesday

  • What: Last year, VBW launched this new event celebrating Victoria’s delicious taco culture outdoors in the middle of a winter storm, and it was still a big hit! This year, the event will be in the warm confines of the Victoria Public Market with even more taco-and-beer pairings to choose from!
  • When: Tuesday, March 6, 7:30 PM – 10 PM
  • Where: Victoria Public Market
  • Tickets: $35

7. Beer, Cheese, More Beer (2 sessions)

  • What: Beer and cheese sure taste good together! One of VBW’s most popular events from past years will be even better this year — it will be less crowded and much more focused on cheese-and-beer pairings, so pick the session that works best for your busy schedule.
  • When: Wednesday March 7th, 7 PM – 8:30 PM, OR 9 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Where: Victoria Public Market
  • Tickets: $35

8. All About the Wood

  • What: Beer geek alert! This is definitely the most specialized event on the schedule. Taste the difference that wood-aging makes in a wide range of beer styles, including sours, Brett-conditioned beers, barley wines, imperial stouts and others. The Victoria Public Market’s food vendors will be serving up their own masterpieces to go along with these special beers. Many of these special beers will also be available to purchase and take home after the event at an on-site pop-up liquor store provided by Spinnakers Spirit Merchants.
  • When: Thursday, March 8th, 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Where: Victoria Public Market
  • Tickets: $50

9. Friday Night Casks

  • What: Sample from at least 25 unique casks alongside delicious food from market vendors. Cask night celebrates craft beer creativity with a selection of 25 unique cask-conditioned beers from BC breweries, along with food from the Victoria Public Market’s fantastic vendors.
  • When: Friday, March 9th, 7:30 PM – 11 PM
  • Where: Victoria Public Market
  • Tickets: $50

10. The Sooke Beer Run

  • What: This is the ideal opportunity to explore Sooke’s burgeoning craft beer community, including beer tastings and tours at Sooke Oceanside BrewerySooke Brewing, and Bad Dog Brewing.
  • When: Saturday, March 10, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Where: Pick-up and drop-off in front of Swans Brewpub, 506 Pandora Ave – tour to 3 Sooke breweries.
  • Tickets: $49

11. Hoppy Birthday

  • What:  Victoria Beer Week turns 5 years old this year and they want to party in style! So break out your tuxes and prom dresses, your wedding suits and bridesmaid’s gowns, your kilts and cotillion frocks, and join them for a dressed-up celebration of Victoria’s beer scene at the Victoria Public Market. Breweries will be serving up something special, and admission is all-inclusive. Please dress formal-and-fun, and instead of a birthday gift, why not bring a toonie to donate to their  Scholarship Fund. Featuring a live jazz performance by the Susannah Adams Trio: Susannah Adams (vocals), Wes Carroll (guitar) and Rob Johnson (double bass).
  • When: Saturday, March 10, 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • Where: Victoria Public Market
  • Tickets: $75
