Jocelyn Hill: If you’re looking for a great day hike, this is it! Amazing scenic views of the Saanich Arm at the summit with winding forest trails to follow there. Absolutely stunning views anytime of year 👌 . . About⬇ This hike has two main trails, one from the Caleb Pike side and the other from Mackenzie Bright. The Caleb Pike side is about 10 km long (round trip) and takes about 3-5 hours depending on your skill level. It is moderately difficult. To access from the Mackenzie Bright side, see our post on Squally reach but just keep following the trail! Its about 14 km in distance (roundtrip) and will take about 3.5-6 hours depending on your skill level. This trail is also considered moderately difficult. . . How to get there⬇ Via Caleb Pike: Take exit 14 off the Trans- Canada Highway and make your way to the highlands for about 6km or so. There will be signs indicating where Gowlland Tod Provincial Park is, turn left onto Caleb Pike road. Drive to the end and park in the gravel parking lot. Follow the signs for the trail and you’re good to go! Via Mackenzie bright: See previous post for squally reach and follow those directions. ______ #pnw #hikebc #hiking #nature #jocelynhill #yyj #wonder #westcoast #pnwcollective #pnwonderland #bc #beautifulbc #beautifulcanada #canada #vancouverisland #greatoutdoors #neature #vanisle #herPNWlife #victoria #summerbucketlist #summer #sunshine #winter #day #lovethisview #girlswhohike #wunderlust #explorevanisland #victoriabuzz

Trial island, from MicMicking point, Vancouver island. Olympic mountains of Washington state, on the other side of Juan de Fuca strait. The Trial Islands are a group of islands located off the south-eastern tip of Vancouver Island off Victoria, part of the municipality of Oak Bay. The islands form the Trial Islands Ecological Reserve and entry outside designated zones is prohibited. It is likely that these islands were so named after the practise of sailing refitted British naval ships from the Esquimalt Royal Navy Dockyard to these islands and back as a trial run before heading into open seas. It has also been suggested that they were named because they constituted a trial of one's skill in navigation and seamanship. The trick was to round them in a small sailing ship and enter the Strait of Juan de Fuca, despite the frequent rip tides and the prevailing westerlies. The island is home to the Trial Islands Lighthouse and four large radio antennas operated under licence by CFAX 1070 AM radio.  comments welcomed and appreciated.
