Java enthusiast Eugene Parks set about inventing his own caffeine fix after a taste of the most expensive coffee in the world, and we think his version is so much better.
Eugene’s coffee vs the original civet coffee
At approximately $200 per pound, the original civet coffee is an international delicacy made with coffee beans that have been semi-digested and pooped out by the Asian palm civet.
(Yeah, we think that’s pretty gross too.)
Civet coffee also has a mossy, mushroom-like aftertaste that often overpowers its rich flavours. Plus the manufacturing process for civet coffee has been laced with animal cruelty allegations.
So after over a thousand tries, Eugene Parks managed to figure out a coffee bean fermentation process that is not semi-digested by an animal (so it’s also cruelty-free), and retains the original flavour of the coffee bean.
The result? A smooth, dark chocolate-y drink with hints of citrus and that signature coffee smell that will excite all of your senses.
