Gas prices are blooming in Victoria to a 154.9 cents per litre

Victoria’s cherry blossom count isn’t the only thing on the rise.

Gas prices on the island have been soaring since the start of the year, and several stations around Greater Victoria are currently sitting at a whopping 154.9 cents per litre.

According to Gas Buddy, several stations are still priced between 144.4-145.9 cents per litre, but are expected to rise between $0.08 to $0.11.

The recent spike can be attributed to several factors.

Other than the shortage of supply, gas prices are going up because of the 2% per litre tax increase to fund transit improvements, and BC’s carbon tax rate increase which went up by $5 on April 1st.

Prices will continue to rise even higher if Alberta fulfills its promise to limit exports to BC if our provincial government continues to block the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
