Nanaimo RCMP are looking to find and identify a driver who was involved in a hit-and-run last week.

In a release issued on Monday, police said the incident took place around 3 pm on Tuesday, April 17th, in a crosswalk at the Selby Street and Fitzwilliam Street intersection.

According to police, the driver of the pickup truck did not remain at the scene to offer assistance or identify themselves.

The 80-year-old woman who was who allegedly hit called police later that same day and reported the incident.

The senior told investigators she was knocked to the ground after being struck by a newer-model white pickup.

She managed to get back on her feet, and at this point, the driver asked her if she was ok to which her response was No, I’m not ok. The truck then turned left onto Fitzwilliam St and continued up the hill.

Later that day, the woman’s son took her to a local hospital later that day where she was treated for some minor bumps and bruises and released.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
