Victoria Shamrocks add Toronto Rock star Rob Hellyer for 2018 season

The Victoria Shamrocks introduced Rob Hellyer to the team yesterday, bolstering what should already be a potent offence for the local lacrosse team.

Hellyer comes from the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League (NLL), where he has been a dynamic attacking force.

Hellyer led the Toronto Rock in points, posting 30 goals and 87 assists in 17 games. The native of Lion’s Head, Ontario is one of the top offensive players across the league, sitting 6th in scoring overall.

It’s clear the Shamrocks will be getting a significant jolt to the offence.

GM “Thrilled” To Bring In Hellyer

“Rob is an elite player who we’ve been admiring for a long time,” said Shamrocks General Manager Chris Welch. “He’s dynamic, highly skilled, knows no fear and is a very creative playmaker. We’re thrilled to welcome him to Victoria.”

Though Hellyer has excelled at the very top level of Lacrosse, he says he’s excited to come to the Shamrocks where their summer season allows him to play in the NLL over the winter, before heading west to Victoria in a quest for the Mann Cup.

“I’ve heard nothing but great things about the organization from current and past players,” he said. “To get the opportunity to play for a franchise like Victoria and have a great shot at the Mann Cup is something that really excites me. I can’t wait to get out there and help the team make a great run.”

The Shamrocks will kick off their season on May 25th, with the home opener against the Burnaby Lakers.
