BC Ferries wants your input about the future of Swartz Bay terminal

Share

Whether you’re headed to Vancouver for the weekend or taking a quick day trip over to one of the Gulf Islands, the Swartz Bay ferry terminal is the primary gateway for Victorians making their way off the island.

That’s why BC Ferries is seeking community feedback from now until the end of summer to help them determine a long-term vision for the terminal and provide a better experience for those embarking on a trip.

“We want to hear what our customers, nearby neighbours, and communities have to say about the future of the Swartz Bay terminal,” says Mark Wilson, BC Ferries’ Vice President Strategy & Community Engagement.

“More than seven million passengers travel through the Swartz Bay terminal each year. The goal of creating this long-term plan will be to enhance the travel experience for our customers and help support growth in the region.”

Stakeholder consultations, online engagement planned

BC Ferries will consult with key stakeholders first, followed by pop-up sessions at the terminal itself for travellers to share their input. An online engagement option will be offered beginning in late-May.

Following these sessions, the company will prepare a summary report which will be made available online for customers and community members to view (but probably not on BC Ferries’ Wi-Fi).

The next step in the Swartz Bay Terminal Development Plan will be the drafting of concept options and a plan that meets BC Ferries’ and the community’s collective needs.

The final plan is expected to be ready by the end of this year.
