On your mark, get set, go!

The Victoria business community will trade office wear and hard hats for running sneakers and team jerseys this weekend, and it’s all for a great cause as the Power To Play fundraiser kicks off Sunday, May 27, at Elk & Beaver Lake.

35 teams are fundraising for Power To Be, and will race through 15 physical and mental obstacles spread over ten kilometres, testing their communication and cooperation along the way.

Power To Be is a Victoria and Vancouver-based non-profit organization that helps people with a disability or barrier get outside and access nature.

The organization works to remove cognitive, physical, and social barriers to the outdoors so that participants can explore who they are to their fullest potential.

Last year’s event raised $223,000. Power To Play is hoping to beat that and raise $230,000 this year to help provide services to more than 1,400 Power To Be participants.

You can donate to support a team up to the day of the race at Power To Play’s website. There is a team of Power To Be participant’s racing and you can donate directly to their team here. Help them reach $2,500 to get five minutes taken off their total race time!

The public is totally welcome to come out and watch their favourite teams cross the finish line in support of a great cause at from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
