Victoria city council approves new pathway connecting Fairfield, James Bay

Share

On Friday, May 11th, Victoria city council approved a new pathway through Beacon Hill Park that will connect James Bay and Fairfield

The project will expand on an already existing pathway from Heywood Avenue to Bridge Way, where it connects with a multi-use pathway that continues to Douglas Street.

The proposal for a project that would make use of a one-time $100,000 contribution from the CRD was brought forward by the James Bay Neighbourhood Association and the Fairfield Gonzales Community Association in December 2017.

“We called each other one day and said we were both working on this, and that seemed to be the same day the CRD gave James Bay and Fairfield $100,000 as our share of the sewage project,” David Biltek of the Fairfield Land Use Committee told CTV News.

According to city council documents, enhancements to the existing pathway will include:

  • Widening the pathway to approximately 2.7 metres to safely and comfortably facilitate shared use.
  • New signage and improved access onto Heywood Avenue
  • New multi-use pavement markings on the existing pathway
  • New Crosswalk / signage to connect to existing multi-use path on Bridge Way

No timeline has been set for the project’s completion as of yet.
