Victoria woman charged with assault after brandishing knife at man

Share

A woman is in custody pending a mental health evaluation after Victoria police arrested her following a series of incidents that occurred downtown Wednesday evening.

Patrol officers were called to the 1100-block of Wharf Street just after 10:30 p.m. for a report that a woman had brandished a knife at a man.

The man was uninjured, but shaken.

The woman was reportedly throwing traffic cones into the street, and after a near miss, the man had told her to stop. The two were not known to each other.

The man called police after he fled from the woman when she pulled out the knife and approached him. Police later located the woman and took her in at gunpoint.

During the course of the investigation, officers recovered a knife and learned that she was involved in some mischief that occurred at a business in the 500-block of Yates Street, resulting in damages.

Police are recommending charges of assault with a weapon, and mischief.

Officers are also recommending the woman be held pending a mental health evaluation, as well as a series of conditions, including not to possess knives.
