After news of increasing BC Hydro rates, rent prices, gas and many other expenses, here’s one spot of positivity to keep in mind while planning your budget.

FortisBC has announced that it will not be raising its natural gas prices, after receiving approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) to maintain their rates, from July 1st onwards.

The company reviews its rates every three months, and does not charge customers any markup price for natural gas and propane.

“Our more than one million customers have made it clear that they want access to natural gas in their homes,” said Diane Roy, vice-president of regulatory affairs at FortisBC.

“As both an affordable and reliable fuel, natural gas is a smart choice for our customers especially since prices remain near their lowest levels in over a decade.”

On Vancouver Island, the current approved cost of gas rate of $1.549 per gigajoule (GJ).
