What’s better than outdoor activities and concerts? Free outdoor activities and concerts, that’s what.

And there will be lots of both on offer this summer at Centennial Square.

Victoria is hosting eight different events outside City Hall, starting this week. With such a wide variety, there’s something for everyone, friends and family alike.

Here’s what you can expect to see at Centennial Square this summer:

Summer in the Square Lunchtime Concerts

Visit the square on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. for a unique live music performance. From folk, world beat, and jazz to swing and blues, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Eventide Music Series

Presented in partnership with CFUV Community Campus Radio, with support from the Downtown Victoria Business Association, the Eventide Music Series brings live music to Centennial Square every Thursday from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. The series features an eclectic mix of independent local and visiting musicians and artists, with themed nights ranging from folk, pop, and indie-rock to hip-hop, funk, punk, electronic, and experimental.

Crafternoons in the Square

It’s time to get crafty! Crafternoons are held the second Tuesday of every month starting June 12 (July 10, Aug. 14, and Sept. 11) from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. All supplies are provided in addition to a complimentary sparkling water and a sweet treat.

Board Games in the Square

The Victoria Junior Chess Society invites you to drop by the Square for a game or two of giant-size chess and Scrabble every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. until Sept. 2.

Argentine Tango

Ever want to learn the tango? Now’s your chance. Alive Tango Victoria is hosting a beginner’s tango lesson followed by a social dance on Saturday, July 28 and Saturday, Aug. 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Bring a friend! After all, it takes two to tango.

Latin Dancing

Or maybe salsa is more your speed? Salsa and tango lessons, with live music performances and DJ selections hosted by DJ Moises, will take place on Sundays, June 17, July 22, and Aug. 5, 19, and 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. No dance experience necessary!

Ballroom Dancing in the Square

Every Monday in July and August, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. will offer ballroom dancing lessons, hosted by the Victoria Ballroom Dance Society. Learn some different dances, then put your new steps to the test in the group dance following each lesson!

Garden City Harmony

Sing pop, indie, folk, and rock songs in simple two, three or four-part harmony in a series of free choir sessions on Monday, June 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. As with the other events, no prior experience is necessary, so just bring your enthusiasm and your pipes!
