You get a house! And you get a house! Everybody gets a house! Except in this case, “you” = Oprah Winfrey. Not, you know, you.
In her most recent property acquisition, American media magnate Oprah Winfrey bought a house on Orcas Island – the largest island on the San Juan Islands archipelago in Washington State – according to a report by Variety.
This estate cost her a whopping CAD$10.7 million (USD$8.3 million), and also brought her about 20km closer to Victoria!
Built in 2007, Oprah’s new 43-acre home is called the Madroneagle Estate and overlooks the island’s East Sound.
The main house on the property has a floor area of 7,303 sq. ft. containing four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and two half bathrooms. The rustic interior has a cabin-vibe and makes use of reclaimed wood, stone and iron work, and wooden floorboards from Chicago’s old Sears’ building.
Some special aspects of the main building include a large kitchen with a built-in pizza oven (yum!), a library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a games room, a home office, and a wine cellar.
Another building on the estate is a 1980s-built contemporary guesthouse that has a large floor area of 2,948 sq. ft. and four bedrooms and three bathrooms of its own.
The property also boasts an additional barn-like multipurpose building which can be used as a woodworking studio, yoga studio, and gym. And the luxuries don’t stop there.
Outside the buildings, there’s a sauna, Asian garden, private hiking trails, a pond and stream, and over half a mile of pebble-stone beaches.
And this is just one of Oprah’s many lavish homes – famous for her penchant for real estate, the star also owns property in California, New Jersey, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, and Hawaii.
