Get ready, true believers! The second annual Vancouver Island Comic Con is coming to the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney this Sunday, June 10.
The convention will bring together comic creators and fans alike for a day of attractions, exhibits, contests, and more.
“We have so much talent here on the Island and I think it’s important to promote that and be a part of providing opportunities and growing the industries represented,” says convention coordinator Josh Kully.
“The convention provides a showcase for aspiring and emerging creators and an opportunity for people to connect with professionals working in the industry in a fun and enthusiastic environment.”
Aside from the usual comic convention fare, this year will include some very special guests, including a star of the hit films Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.
Janeshia Adams-Ginyard is an American stuntwoman and actor who appears in both films as one of the Dora Milaje, the all-female special forces of Wakanda. She is also the stunt double for Danai Gurira, who plays General Okoye.
And if you love Disney animation, you won’t want to miss the Q&A with Chris Williams, who co-directed Disney’s Big Hero 6 and Moana with Don Hall.
Other panelists include concept artist John Gallagher, who works for shows like The Flash and Supergirl, and set decorator Terry Lewis, who worked on Deadpool 2 and other Hollywood films.
There will even be an all-female panel of five authors who write young adult fiction, and will discuss their experiences in the publishing industry, and the influence of books like Harry Potter on geek culture. The panel includes Julia Nobel, Whitney Gardner, Rebecca Sky, E. Latimer, and Tiffany Daune.
With all that plus a cosplay contest, prop displays, a zombie shooting range, and so much more, there really isn’t any shortage of cool stuff for comic fans to check out.
