Nanaimo motorcyclist airlifted to Victoria after serious collision with SUV

Share

A 24-year-old Nanaimo man was airlifted to hospital in Victoria after sustaining significant injuries when his motorcycle collided with an SUV on Monday.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of St. George Street and Stewart Avenue. All lanes on Stewart were closed for several hours while the crash was investigated.

After speaking with witnesses, officers determined that the motorcyclist and a Jeep Cherokee were going southbound on Stewart when the motorcyclist suddenly changed lanes and collided with the vehicle.

The four occupants of the vehicle, including two adults and their two children, were not injured.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Nanaimo RCMP say drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors, but speed and driver inattention on the motorcyclist’s part have not. The investigation is ongoing.
