While residents and visitors alike were pouring into downtown Victoria to celebrate Canada’s 151st birthday, Victoria Police officers were busy gearing up for the next 12 hours of activity.
According to their Twitter feed, VicPD officers responded to a total of 157 calls for service between 6 PM and 6 AM last night.
Out of the calls related to Canada Day, officers made a total of 17 arrests, and VicPD’s Cst. Matthew Rutherford says most of those arrests were alcohol related.
A large number of intoxicated youths were apprehended and had to be picked up by their parents. Officers also poured out quite a few bottles and cans of liquor.

Additionally, VicPD also had to release a tweet asking people to not call their non-emergency line to inquire about whether or not the fireworks were still on.
We're receiving calls to our non-emergency line wondering if the fireworks are still on. Please don't call us asking….. @CityOfVictoria or @AtomiqueEvents will advise if the schedule changes… #yyj #vicpdhelps
