5 things to do in and around Victoria today, Tuesday September 4th

It’s been a long relaxing weekend, but now it’s time to get back to the grind!

Check out these five events to make the transition smoother:

Swing Jazz Tuesday

  • What: Reminisce 1928 with a night of live swing jazz, classic cocktails, and swing dancing. They have two great bands alternating every Tuesday night: The Capital City Syncopators / The Flying Saucers.
  • When: 8 p.m.
  • Where: Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad St
  • Admission: $10 (includes a free drink if you know the “secret word”)

Open Mic McRaes

  • What: Open stage for anyone to get up and play guitar for sing or even do some standup. Bring your voice and your talent and leave it all on stage! House guitar available.
  • When: 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Where: McRae’s, 1652 McRae Ave

Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs

  • What: If learning about ancient pyramids, hieroglyphs, and mummies sounds like an awesome way to spend your summer, then walk like an Egyptian down to the Royal BC Museum. The exhibit gives visitors a glimpse into all aspects of ancient Egyptian life, from the emergence of ancient Egyptian civilization along the Nile to the Ptolemaic and Roman eras.
  • When: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Where: Royal BC Museum, 675 Belleville St
  • Admission: Varies.

Music Bingo

  • What: B: Bring a friend or just come by yourself!
    I: Imagine the fun you can have kicking butt at music bingo!
    N: New and exciting prizes to be won every week!
    G: Get yourself to Yates Street Taphouse by 8pm on Tuesday!
    O: Order your fave food or bevy and make a fun night of it!
  • When: 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Where:Yates Street Taphouse Bar&Grill, 759 Yates St
  • Cost: Free!

Salsa Caliente Fundamentals of Salsa 

  • What: Salsa On 2 (Mambo) is danced to the rhythm of the congas and the techniques used allow for quick turns and direction changes, complex partner patterns and more body movement while dancing on a crowded dance floor. This is not just On1 moved over a count. Come and learn the differences and experience the music and the dance in a whole new way! No experience or partner required.
  • When: 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Where: Cafe Casablanca, 2524 Bridge St
  • Admission: $55 for 5 class punch card or $12 drop in (+$2 min at the cafe)
