Man in life-threatening condition after being attacked in Saanich

A 41-year-old man remains in life-threatening condition after being attacked in Saanich on Saturday afternoon.

Officers responded to reports of the attack in the 3900 block of Carey Road at around 3 p.m.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) was called in due to the nature of the injuries of the victim.

Saanich police cordoned off an area on Carey Road and another residence on Granderson Road in Langford following the incident.

According to witnesses, the man was allegedly attacked with a hammer and there were several attackers. Emergency crews were seen performing CPR on the victim before being transported to hospital.

“Investigators from VIIMCU and the Saanich Police have continued their investigation throughout the night and into the early morning hours,” Saanich police said in a statement. “Investigators will be continuing to follow up in both locations over the coming days.”

Police believe all those associated to the incident were known to each other.

One person was taken into custody.

Police looking for possible witnesses on BC Transit bus

At around 3:15 pm, a BC Transit bus Route 30 was travelling on Carey Road. Investigators are asking any passengers who believe they may have seen the incident or persons associated to the incident to come forward and speak with police.
