This Friday, the Victoria Police Department will be honouring Cst. Ian Jordan, who passed away earlier this year after an on-duty vehicle accident left him in a coma since 1987.

The ceremony will take place at the VicPD Hall of Honour, where Chief Del Manak and other officers will unveil where Jordan’s plaque and badge are placed within the Hall, alongside other honoured VicPD officers.

A third-floor room inside the VicPD headquarters has also been named after the constable, the “Cst. Ian Jordan Room”, and a cairn was created outside the office with Jordan’s name inscribed on it.

Jordan was responding to a potential break-and-enter in progress on Fort Street when his vehicle collided with another responding VicPD cruiser.

The accident lead to the creation of a “trauma team,” which helps officers and staff after traumatic incidents.

Jordan was 35 years old at the time of the accident, and passed away at the age of 66.

He is survived by his wife, Hilary, and son, Mark, who was 16 months old when the accident occured. Both are set to attend the memorial.

The plaque unveiling is the first of several events that VicPD has planned for Canada’s Law Enforcement Memorial weekend, which remembers Jordan and other fallen members.

The constable will also be honoured at Enforcement Memorial events across the country, including the Toronto to Ottawa Memorial Relay Run.
